Trials & Triumphs of Career Transition v.7 - Supporting Conner with More Than His Career Transition
Mar 19, 2025The moment an employee is told their services are no longer required; their mind immediately turns to the problem of replacing their income. For most people, having to navigate today’s fast moving job market by themselves is a lonely and frustrating prospect.
When Conner was enrolled in our program after a relatively short tenure with the printing group he worked for, it was immediately apparent that he not only needed practical help with his job search, but he also needed help to change his mind-set about the circumstances, as well as support to manage his finances, which were already causing him great personal stress.
As is often the case, Conner was very angry at his employment termination meeting. But, his anger did not subside easily in the days that followed after leaving the company. It wasn’t until he had a couple of intense and vulnerable sessions with his personal program coach at CMS, that he could see that his angry emotions were a direct response to the fear and uncertainty he felt now that his employment had ended. Through their conversations, his program coach was able to help him separate his angry emotions from the natural fear response he had to his termination. Understanding why he was feeling the way he was, made it much easier to process his emotions.
In addition, Conner’s program coach, encouraged him to seek the guidance of CMS's independent CFP professional in order to get practical help in the management of his personal financial situation. Once he worked with our CFP, Conner had a personalized plan to proactively take control of his expenses which was paramount to reducing his feelings of fear, uncertainty and anger.
By addressing his emotions and helping him to understand where they came from, and by giving him practical assistance to manage a key source of stress (i.e. his finances), Conner felt ready, and much more confident, to then focus on his future, and take the next best steps to advance his career – via the strategic CMS job search assistance / outplacement program!
